
1. Pre-requisites
Before beginning a project, a student must have:
· completed 17 papers including the project management paper towards the BIS
· completed the highest level paper in the project’s main skill area
· obtained commitment to the proposed project from a suitable client
· gained approval from the project committee for the project proposal
1.1. Process DeliverablesThe project process must be carried out in a professional, ethical and competent manner, and must be appropriately documented in a logbook, weekly progress reports, metrics report (actual v planned), self-assessment report and formal presentation.
1.2. Client Evaluation
The client report must indicate the client’s level of satisfaction with the process and the outcome of the project. The client should comment on the student’s professionalism and relationship skills as well as on the technical quality of the product. The client must test the product comprehensively and provide a testing summary.
1.3. Technical Deliverables
The end product must be of acceptable quality, robust, and must be documented appropriately in User and Technical Manuals. A testing plan must be drawn up and performed, and any faults found must be reported. Where product implementation is not done, a report on barriers to implementation and issues to be resolved is required.
1. Project Assessment Deliverables
1.1. Proposal
· Original project proposal
· Revised project proposal, if any and description of the scope changes from the original proposal
· Client’s written approval on the original and revised scope, if any
· Approval letter of the project committee
· Time extension letter, if any
1.2. Log Book
Daily diary of tasks worked on, hours spent, problems encountered, milestones achieved. Students may use a notebook or exercise book. Used as source material for the critical review at the end of the project. The log book is to be viewed by project supervisor each week.
1.3. Weekly review forms
These are used to plan for the coming week. They are discussed at weekly project meetings. The project supervisor will add comments and sign.
1.4. Client letter
Clients must undertake to provide a report to the supervising committee (up to 2 pages) by the deadline for completion of the project. The report should state
· the degree to which the client is satisfied with the project outcome
· an assessment of the manner in which the project was carried out
· a grading based on the client’s perception of the project, with the following labels:
o weak (definitely falls short of requirements),
o limited (falls short in some areas),
o adequate (generally meets requirements),
o good (goes beyond requirements in some areas),
o excellent (goes beyond requirements in most areas)
